The Swing : sense my space

The Swing

As my starting point with 'To Sense MySpace', I will start by focusing on spaces that are sanctuaries.I am revisiting My Sanctuary: The Swing. My grandfather built this swing from scratch and placed it in our small back garden area. My chosen space includes not only the swing, but one of the greenhouses and the view of the fields. I might even plan to paint the background showing the fields. To me,the swing represents my childhood memories. My personal homemade swing helps me relax and de-stress. I watch the sun set in the distant fields and admire the moon and stars at night. I put my music on and spend hours in my own world no matter what the weather is. There is something about the sensation of flight that appeals to me.

Jan 9:Sense My Space

I decided to move back to Angler fish and I have looked at a range of fish, both online and in supermarkets, and i have tried to replicate the scales by using the aluminium of cans and their can tags and stitching them together with wire which resembles the shine and texture of the scales. On three canvas' I have added the 'teeth' and placed them into the canvas to represent the Angler fish's mouth coming out of the canvas and on one i added a light for the lure. I wanted to make my Angler fish more abstract rather than exactly how its supposed to look which is why I aranged the teeth randomly.

I also came across another Artist who uses fish in his work- J. Vincent Scarpace. I love how his fish are abstract, colourful and occasionally unrecognisable.
