3 december; sense my sapce

After having talked to my tutors, I am now focusing on my design drawings and i hope to turn these simple sketches into prints. I have made quite a few 'teeth' and now plan to place them into a canvas and record them. I wanted to make the angler fish more abstract and may add certain stand out features like the lure and fins. I also want to test using expandable foam to create a 3D piece and then carve into it.

6th November: sense my space

I have added LED lights to the small 'jellyfish' enclosure and have positioned them so that they will cast shadows when in a dark room. I want to make smaller jellyfish from different materials, like wire or resin. I am also now sketching ideas for a Angler fish sculpture using canvas wire and other pliable materials.

October 19th: Sense My Space

I have comlpeteted my miniature jellyfish from polystyrene, ribbon and thread. I may or may not add lighting to the enclosure they are inside. I will now be planning a larger mixed media 'sculpture' of another biolluminescent creature, the Anlger fish. I plan to make this from a steampunk view adding cogs, gears and other metal findings to create the body and teeth and also plan to put in a set of LED lights into its 'lure' and maybe where its heart would be.

October 11th : Sense My Space

Today I have been exploring underwater sealife, particulary, jellyfish and I have constructed a box in which to hang these 'jellyfish'  made from polystyrene, riddon and thread. I plan to make similiar jellyish of differet sizes to hang in the box.

october 2nd: sense my space

Over the weekend I have collected different materials to make small sculptures testing different materials to make jellyfish or angler fish. Once I have figured out how to make a mould, I have bought 15 LED lights to place into a see through mould in order to capture the bioluminescence of these creatures. I also am looking for pliable materials like aluminium to again test and experiment using materials, and plan to use a mixture of soft ribbon and lace to compare to it. I am also trying to add to my Contextual Notebool researching artists that are relevant.

September 26th: Sense my Space

At the group tutorial, I was directed to look at some artists that use similar approaches to my idea. I would like to continue in the direction of using the bioluminescence, by placing LED's into a clear, transparent cast or mould, maybe resin. I was also directed to try using a hot glue gun on laminate sheets and then when it dries, to peel it off, creating half of a 'mould'. I have to be realistic about getting to 'blow' glass to make my work. I will continue to think about this idea of bio electricity. I will continue to research artists. I have been advised to look at Karen Nicol and I find her work inspiring in the way she uses textiles to create little worlds and I would love to give textiles a go as I have never tried it and also maybe 'scultp' jellyfish from other materials.

September 25th: Sense My Space

Today I decided to make a double helix made from wire just to test the idea of having the small, microscopic inner workings of the human,eg. DNA, or blood cells.
I have decided to draw the organs seperately and as detailed as I can in order to understand my subject inside and out. After I have done this, I plan to make small scale sized organs to test different materials, particulary moulds,so that the detail can be seen.

September 20th

Today I have have taken a break from building my sense my space 'envirnoment' because it has me frustrated. I have turned my attention to drawing and brainstorming for a new idea. As I have mind-mapped 'Sanctuary', I have a few new ideas, dealing with my love of marine biology and diving.I have colllected a few images online of human organs with the blood vessels filled with a dye and preserved without the muscle and bones. This has reminded me of corals in the ocean and I have came up with a small idea of the deep sea creatures who, in darkness, have developed bioluminescence, which I find fascinating.
